Relationships in Full Light

Well if you love it or hate it Twilight new movie is coming out on the 20th of this month!
And at the REVOLT we are looking at how these books and movies are an interpretation of what we view as relationships!

We have looked at how we all have feelings and those are those things that you cannot change, they come naturally. If you like someone then you have butterflies and sweaty hands, if you get embarrassed your face turns red, if you get angry your blood starts to boil. But what happens after those feelings. That is When we experience emotions. Do you let your emotions take over! or do you look at your feelings with a rational eye and understand what is going on!

In the same light we look at God the same way. For some we rely on feelings to dictate our emotions, Which dictate our actions to God. For some we say we have not felt God in a long time or that the feeling of his presence is gone!

there was a prophet in the Old Testament that was experiencing the same thing, He had "felt" God for some time then he felt abandoned by God.
and some times we look for the big events to tell us that God is there, but God is bigger than those big moments and if we rely on only those we will miss the true presence of God

1 Kings 19:11-12 (New International Version)

11 The LORD said, "Go out and stand on the mountain in the presence of the LORD, for the LORD is about to pass by."
Then a great and powerful wind tore the mountains apart and shattered the rocks before the LORD, but the LORD was not in the wind. After the wind there was an earthquake, but the LORD was not in the earthquake. 12 After the earthquake came a fire, but the LORD was not in the fire. And after the fire came a gentle whisper.

so in this we have to Guard our hearts, and not to be take over by our feelings that take over our emotions, which take over our actions!

what is it as a Christ follower are we called to be?
Even if you are not a believer you have to agree that this group of people are suppose to be called to even more.

this last week we looked at a believer is called to care!
but to who?
it seems hard because there are those people that we know that we need to care about but why?

Jesus talked about this in the story of the good Samaritan.

Luke 10:25-37
The Parable of the Good Samaritan
25On one occasion an expert in the law stood up to test Jesus. "Teacher," he asked, "what must I do to inherit eternal life?"

26"What is written in the Law?" he replied. "How do you read it?"

27He answered: " 'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind'a]">[a]; and, 'Love your neighbor as yourself.'b]">[b]"

28"You have answered correctly," Jesus replied. "Do this and you will live."

29But he wanted to justify himself, so he asked Jesus, "And who is my neighbor?"

30In reply Jesus said: "A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, when he fell into the hands of robbers. They stripped him of his clothes, beat him and went away, leaving him half dead. 31A priest happened to be going down the same road, and when he saw the man, he passed by on the other side. 32So too, a Levite, when he came to the place and saw him, passed by on the other side. 33But a Samaritan, as he traveled, came where the man was; and when he saw him, he took pity on him. 34He went to him and bandaged his wounds, pouring on oil and wine. Then he put the man on his own donkey, took him to an inn and took care of him. 35The next day he took out two silver coinsc]">[c] and gave them to the innkeeper. 'Look after him,' he said, 'and when I return, I will reimburse you for any extra expense you may have.'

36"Which of these three do you think was a neighbor to the man who fell into the hands of robbers?"

37The expert in the law replied, "The one who had mercy on him."
Jesus told him, "Go and do likewise."

It seems that we are always able to make excuses of why not to help

the religious people could have had a good excuse to walk the other way but the one man that did not fall into that excuse but there were consequences...

care it inconvenient!

the Samaritan did not plan on helping someone that day but it came up!

care it costs!

he had to pay for the man to get better

but care changes lives!

the reason that we care is on because we have to but because Jesus loved us first!

“To this you were called, because Chris suffered for you, leaving you an example that you should follow in his steps.” 1 Peter 2:21

Join the REVOLT

Join the REVOLT!

Hello friends,
Well we are in for some fun and some adventure. We are starting this school year off with changing our name from the Highway, to the REVOLT!
some may be asking why?

well stop!!!

The real reason that we are changing our name to the REVOLT is we want a name that conveys our vision, and here at the Vineyard Church of the Rockies, we don't want just a youth group, but a movement!
our vision is to stand up to this generations status quo by becoming revolutionary believers for Christ!

We want to revolt against all the lies that this generation is hearing. and we want to Join in the Revolution that Jesus started.

Jesus started this revolt, we see it when he read from Isaiah in Luke Chapter 4

“The Spirit of the Lord is upon me,
for he has anointed me to bring Good News to the poor.
He has sent me to proclaim that captives will be released,
that the blind will see, that the oppressed will be set free, and that the time of the Lord’s favor has come."

So I want to call all of you to this REVOLT, when we Join together we can change the world around us!

EVERYDAY EXPORTS HEADED TO KANSAS CITY During the SUMMER

WHEN: Leaving Friday, July 24 and returning on Thursday, July 30, 2009

WHERE:  Kansas City

WHERE WE WILL STAY: We will stay in the gym at Overland Park Vineyard where Matt Worley is the Youth Pastor.

WHAT: We have several very exciting mission opportunities planned for this trip. We are coordinating our efforts with Matt Worley and other Kansas City churches so that we can partner with them to make it even more exciting! Matt and his junior high will participate all week.

Our hosts will be Bryan and Lori Lopez, who are in the very early stages of a church plant called The Refuge Vineyard. Our mission will be focused on assisting them in their seedling church planting efforts as well as working with Operation Breakthrough that just happens to be in the neighborhood they have targeted for their church plant!

Our current schedule looks like this: (subject to change of course)

Friday, July 24:    Leave early (meet at the church at 5:00 a.m.) and arrive by 5:00 p.m. in Kansas City to the Overland Park Vineyard. One team will go get groceries and then everyone will have dinner, worship, set up a boy and girl tent in the gym, make hula hoops, and then sleep tight!

Saturday, July 25:    Up early, fix breakfast and sack lunches, head out to do Neighborhood Clean-Up with other youth from Kansas City from 9:00-12:00 in the morning. The neighborhood projects will be in the neighborhood where the seedling church plant is and may include park beautification, planting flowers, etc. We would then have a picnic lunch.    In the afternoon we will possibly do some inside construction projects in the neighborhood. We may also break into teams with adults to minister with $20.00 per team to the homeless. Each team would be commissioned to go out and use that money however God calls them to. They may take someone to dinner, or they go to the store and make sandwiches, etc. Saturday night we may stay at a Hope Faith Ministries homeless shelter (no homeless will be there).

Sunday, July 26: Get up early, clean up, fix breakfast for the homeless that come in and then do a worship service for them. We may also play games with the kids that come for breakfast while another team fixes breakfast. The afternoon is still being planned, but would include being sure we are all ready for the week of VBS.

Monday/Tuesday/Wed: Get up early, fix and eat breakfast, make sack lunches and head for Operation Breakthrough. We will spend Mon, Tues, and Wed mornings at Operation Breakthrough from 9:00 to 11:30. Then eat lunch at a nearby park before heading to the Garrison Community Center to do a VBS with the neighborhood kids. We are able to use the VBS supplies from the North Kansas City VBS and then we will bring several of our Arts for the Nation bags of arts and crafts as well as supplies for hula hoops, etc. to supplement the North KC VBS. We also have an adorable craft project donated by Group Publishing that we will make.

Our evenings on Monday and Tuesday will include dinner and worship.

Wed night we plan to have a sit down dinner with youth from area churches and a fun night of praise and worship.

Thursday, July 30: Get up, clean up the gym, pack and head home.

HOW:    We will drive. We can save $100 per person if we have folks that are willing to take their own vans for transport so that we don't have to rent vehicles. At present we need 4 vehicles that can hold 7 each including the driver as we will be able to use the blue church van.

COST:   The cost is $300 per person. The payment due date schedule is as follows:

Application + $100.00 due May 15, 2009

             $100.00 due June 15, 2009

             $100.00 due July 1, 2009
